What Size Baton Should I Buy?

Getting the proper Baton size and diameter is important for your comfort and expert twirling. Use these guidelines to select your baton length and size.

Baton Length - Of all the factors that go into purchasing the correct baton - the proper length is one of the most important - especially for a beginner twirler. There is nothing worse than trying to learn a new technique or routine and spending most of the time hitting yourself with the baton.

Measure from the tip of your middle finger to that little bone that sticks out on top of your shoulder (the Acromion Process). Order to the shortest inch - if that measurement is 26 1/2 you should order a 26 Inch.

Baton Diameter - The diameter is the thickness of the Baton shaft. The standard size thickness is the 3/8" size. The 3/8" should be used for beginning twirlers but is also used by many competitive twirlers as well. The 7/16" diameter is thicker than the 3/8" and is sometimes called a "Thicker". The 7/16" is used by some competitive twirlers that twirl mostly larger length batons and prefer a thicker feel. You should only try a 7/16" diameter baton after you have been twirling a 3/8" diameter for a while to see if it is right for you.

Buying a gift and can't get a measurement?

If it's just impossible to get a measurement - use the chart below as a guideline for selecting baton length. Note: If the twirler is tall for their age, add 1 inch to the baton length. If the twirler is small for their age, subtract 1" from the baton length.

Age 1 - 4 5 - 7 8 - 10 11 - 12 13 -14 15 Up
Baton Length 18" 20" 22" 24" 26" 28"
